Making Eye Care Fit Your Schedule

We know that life gets busy and it can be hard to fit everything into office hours. That’s why we are open 7 days a week. Each of the doctors at our clinic have years of experience that they bring to our practice. Regardless of what day fits your schedule you know you’ll have someone looking after you who really cares about you.

Gradual Changes Are Hard To See

Many ocular diseases, especially the age-related diseases, change your eyesight so gradually they are almost impossible to identify. Cataracts make your vision blurry or cloudy, but at a pace that is difficult to register. Similarly, changes in vision due to age-related macular degeneration can be so slight it is impossible to see until it is too late.

An annual appointment can save your sight.

Children's Eye Exams

A child’s eyes are so important for their personal and academic development. Nearly all communication has a visual component and early learning is done by watching. Most classroom learning is visual so it’s vital to ensure your child’s eyes are working well to facilitate their future. An annual eye exam gives them the best opportunity to succeed.

Your vision does so much for you. Without sight, you would not be able to drive a car, text a friend, or see your loved ones’ faces. Preserving your eyesight’s longevity only takes one hour and a half a year. We make sure your retina, macula, and optic nerve are working properly and that you have no early warning signs for ocular diseases.

We take pride in providing excellent care for older eyes. As your eyes age, they grow more susceptible to a variety of age-related diseases. Gradual conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, and glaucoma all affect your sight permanently without noticeable symptoms. For this reason, it’s important to have your eyes checked annually.

For patients with diabetes, their eyes are at risk of developing diseases exclusive to their condition. At a diabetic eye exam, we take a thorough look at the overall health of the eye. We use the latest retinal imaging to check for warning signs of diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema.

What To Expect At An Eye Exam

For your first visit to our office, we ask that you bring your contacts (in the original packaging or lids), as well as any prescription glasses you wear. You will not need to bring these for any subsequent appointments. We’ll get you to fill out some forms regarding your information, medical and ocular history, current medication, and other basic information. Be sure to bring identification and any insurance information with you as well.

Testing Your Vision

We test your vision in a number of ways. We want to know how well you see far away, up close, and side to side. We’ll see how well your eyes work independently and as a team. Plus, we check in on your peripheral vision and depth of focus. This will let us know if your eyes need any correction, or if your prescription needs updating.

Looking past your vision, we investigate the overall health of your eyes. Using the most modern diagnostic technology we examine your retina, macula, and optic nerve to ensure these structural parts of your eyes are healthy. Retinal imaging gives us insight into the progressive diseases that could be in your future, making prevention a possibility.

Healthy Eyes For Every Lifestyle

There are a quarter of a million people in Reno, Nevada, and just about as many different lifestyles to go along with it. Many individuals spend their days behind a computer screen, while others spend their hours squinting into the sun. Whatever your life calls for, we can help.

UV Protection

When we’re headed to the beach or to spend the day in the garden we always remember sunscreen. Anyone who has experienced a sunburn is not likely to want another one. What many people don’t realize is that eyes can become sunburnt as well.

Photokeratitis is the unpleasant, but temporary, sunburning of the eyes. It happens most often to those who spend the day around water, as the light rays reflect off the water and into the eyes. Sunburnt eyes are painful, red, and swollen. They water, create glare or halos and feel as though there is grit under the eyelid.

Symptoms should only last a day or two but they are also completely avoidable. Wearing proper UV protective sunglasses and a wide brim hat can keep you from suffering after a day in the sun. Those who need corrective eyewear can order prescription sunglasses from our dispensary so you can enjoy the sun with clear vision.

Spending hours looking at a computer screen can cause a ripple effect that extends past your vision. Not just computer screens – televisions, smartphones, and even some advertising like illuminated billboards. This digital age has created a new problem for your eyes: computer vision syndrome.

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) stems from the blue light these screens emit. Its short wavelength causes the light to penetrate deeper while scattering wider, creating difficulty while focusing. Over time, this digital eye strain can cause headaches, double vision, and fatigue. Existing conditions like dry eye and myopia create a compounding problem.

An optometrist may prescribe glasses with a blue light filter and can provide you with management strategies for CVS.

Fashionable Frames, Comfortable Contacts

After your appointment, or anytime you need a fashion freshen-up, visit our dispensary for the latest in eyewear. Our opticians will help you pick frames, safety glasses, and sunglasses that suit your face and express your individuality.

Framing Your Face With Style

Frames should be comfortable enough to wear all day while flattering your face. Glasses are more than vision correction – they make a statement. With an abundance of frames available, our opticians will help you look your best. Whether you go for bold frames or barely-there frameless spectacles, you should feel confident about your choice.

Accent your already impeccable wardrobe with a pair of glasses you’ll look forward to putting on every day. The right frames flatter your face to let your true personality shine through. We know how important it is to feel confident. Our opticians work hard to make sure you leave our office feeling positive about your choices.

We carry the eyewear from great names like Costa, Prada, and Cavlin Klein so you can rest assured your frames will last. Anti-reflective coatings, blue light filter to reduce digital eye strain, and UV protection can be added to most prescription lenses. You’ll not only look your best, you’ll have a great experience with your new eyewear.

Modern contact lenses make going glasses-free an option for more patients. Multifocal, toric, and aspheric lenses are creating solutions for patients with myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, and even astigmatism. Each eye is as unique as the person, so having your contact lenses properly fitted is absolutely necessary. Visit our office for your very own individualized level of correction.

Latisse is the first FDA-approved prescription for eyelashes. By using Latisse regularly, your own lashes grow longer, fuller, and darker. The serum is applied directly to the lash line with the supplied applicator. You can continue to wear your regular makeup, including eyeliner and mascara, throughout the treatment.

After 12 to 16 weeks of dedicated use, you will begin to see results. Ask your optometrist if Latisse is right for you. You should not use Latisse if you are at a higher risk for glaucoma or are allergic to any of the ingredients. Your eyelashes will return to their original state if the treatments are discontinued.
