Contact Lens Exams & Fittings

Find the Right Contacts With a Contact Lens Exam & Fitting

Switching to contact lenses can change your life. Choosing the right lenses means your life is frame-free, comfortable, and convenient. Eyes are as individual as fingerprints so your contacts need to be fitted properly to ensure they work for you.

A Contact Lens Fitting – Fits Your Eyes & Your Lifestyle

Poorly fitting contacts are more than irritating. They can be uncomfortable and create disruptions in your vision. When you come to Dr. Jennifer L. Shane & Associates, we will help you pick the lenses that best suit your eyes and lifestyle, plus we will show you how to insert, remove and care for them properly. With the right instructions, you can avoid dry eye, corneal abrasions, and eye infections.

The Right Contacts For You

To make your contacts as comfortable as possible we test a number of variables. Corneal keratometry indicates the shape of your eye. Your tear quantity and quality inform us about what type of lenses might be most comfortable.

After your fitting, our opticians will ensure you take home the correct lenses for your eyes. If they do not fit properly we will try another type until we find the right fit for you. It is not always the first pair you try, but we will keep trying until you find the ones that offer clear, comfortable vision and fit well with your lifestyle.

Modern Contact Lenses

Contacts have developed a great deal since their FDA approval in 1971. Since then, we have introduced extended-wear, 2 week disposable, and daily disposable lenses. Talk to our optometrists about what your lifestyle calls for.

  • Aspheric Lenses – Offer less distortion than spherical contact lenses. Their curvature is designed to enhance your depth of focus more effectively than typical contacts.
  • Toric Lenses – Designed for astigmatism patients. Shaped specifically to reduce the amount of tilted distortion astigmatism can create. These contacts are weighted and necessitate a fitting to ensure they are comfortable and do not rotate.
  • Multifocal Lenses – Specialized lenses which incorporate a gradient into their prescription. These are beneficial for those with presbyopia or for myopia control.
